Christmas Prayers | Julie

On a normal day our lives are so busy, but during the Christmas season, it reaches a whole new level. On the top of the usual tasks of carpool, grocery shopping, sports practice, house cleaning, homework, etc, there’s the added Christmas to-do list. And while the decorating and baking and gift buying and parties are fun, sometimes, there’s just no time! And I’m not trying to add anything to your already packed to-do list, but this is really simple and can really make a difference in your Christmas season!

This goes to the very top of the to do list: Christmas Prayers. These are very short and very simple. You could do one a day or one a week or do them all at the same time. But hopefully these Christmas Prayers will help you reflect on what’s most important this time of year.

Dear God, give us:

Generosity – Show us what gifts we have to offer and help us to give them generously.
“On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” (Matthew 2:11)
Joy – May the joy of Christ be felt through us.
“As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.” (Luke 1:44)

Gratitude – Thank you for all of our blessings, not just the gifts under the tree.
“For the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name.” (Luke 1:49)

Light – May the light of Christ shine from within us.
“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.” (Isaiah 9:2)

Love – Help us see ways to turn love into action this Christmas.
“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40)

Peace – May the peace of Christ cover the busyness of this season.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

Amen.

I pray your Christmas is filled with generosity, joy, gratitude, light, love, and peace.
Will you also pray with us that those who listen to LifeSongs during this Christmas season to hear a familiar Christmas song, would also find the reason that we celebrate Christmas – Jesus! LifeSongs is all Christmas music through Christmas Day. We hope that those who are listening and searching will find the generosity, joy, gratitude, light, love, and peace that we have in Jesus!
