VBS Memory | Josh

My walk with Jesus started at age 7; so I’m going on nearly 40 years of loving Jesus. Sometimes that is easier than other times – but my King is my purpose in life. I run all my decisions through Him, by His word, His Spirit and His people. My journey with Jesus actually began with amazing people at church who showed me genuine Love and patience as they taught me all about Jesus.

I vividly remember vacation bible school at the age of 10. It was my first Summer living in Michigan. My dad had taken a job helping a young church grow. I did not immediately fit in – with my New Orleans accent and thin Southern blood. (It’s cold in Michigan 9 months of the year) A youth group from Tennessee came to our church and ran the VBS for several local churches.

They were so cool – they even performed at the local mall doing Christian songs in choral performances. The big finale at every concert was Michael W. Smith’s “Go West Young Man!” They had dance moves that would impress TikTok-ers… Meaning it was basically sign language while swaying to the beat. But to a young kid, it was cool.

A lot of kids are going to see adults and teenagers do silly things to make them smile and teach them about Jesus at Vacation Bible Schools all over the area – see the LifeSongs VBS calendar. And you can share your church details there as well, so we can spread the word.

I will never forget how those teenagers spent time not just entertaining me, teaching my crafts and playing games with me and my friends during the summer of ’92 – they SHOWED me the love of Jesus. To all the great volunteers and church staff members putting on Vacation Bible School this Summer – thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus!
