Dressed For Battle | Jojo

Delta.

A word you’ve heard over the years especially if you were in a sorority or if you like to earn frequent flyer miles on your Delta airlines account. When you think of that term now, you can’t help but think of the Covid variant.

For the past year and a half, no matter what, Covid just seems to always come up in conversation. (Kind of like how it was for New Orleans for a while. Everything was pre or post Katrina.)

That is just what happened when a group of ladies and I went to dinner. Covid came up and several shared stories about their experiences since all of this began. One woman at the table is a respectable doctor. She was giving the table insight into why the virus has wreaked havoc. She stated that one reason is because the virus finds the weakest area or organ in your body and that’s what it attacks.

[This blog is NOT to instill fear within you in any way, but to relate this to something else vitality important as a believer.]

That conversation took place over a month ago, but just last week, I thought about it in a different way as I was praying about what to share with you.

If I’m being honest, nothing says “how the enemy operates” quite like the way Covid works.

The Bible says in John 10:10

“‘The thief (enemy) comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I (Jesus) came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].’”

That’s what the thief loves to do. His mission is to attack you where you are the weakest, where you have the least self control, and where you have a hard time saying no to temptation. He basically kicks you when you are already down.

In case you didn’t know, there is an enemy called Satan and he doesn’t play fair!

So what can you do to stop the destruction?

First, Identify what you struggle with the most (pride, unforgiveness, fear, etc.) and ask the Holy Spirit to strengthen you by His wisdom.

Secondly, Get up every morning and get dressed.

I’m not just talking about brushing your teeth, brushing your hair, putting on makeup, and picking out your favorite outfit. I’m talking about putting on your war gear!

When you’re up against the lying, deceitful, manipulating devil, you’ve got to have your spiritual armor on mighty warrior!

Ephesians 6:11-17 NLT

“Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

My mother in law started declaring this prayer over my nieces, nephew, and my kids many years ago and both she and I want to share it with you so that you (and your family) can be dressed for battle and ready!

Mawmaw’s Armor prayer:

(Hands on head) I put on the helmet of salvation to protect me from confusion.

(Hands on chest) I put on the breastplate of righteousness to guard me from temptation.

(Right hand extended) I take the shield of Faith to protect me from the devil.

I have the sword of the Spirit to keep me from all sickness, disease, harm, danger, injury, and pests.

(Hands on hips) I buckle the belt of truth around my waist to give me discernment and keep me from lies.

(Stomp feet) My feet are shod with the gospel of peace – I will be happy in Jesus today.

Lord, give me wisdom, knowledge, and understanding and help me to serve you everyday. AMEN!

You’re ready.
