“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.” Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
I love those TikToks where artists take a blank canvas and create something mind-blowing. At first, it’s just chaotic brushstrokes, random blobs of color, and even a few splatters that look like mistakes. You’re thinking, “This is a disaster.” But then, with one brilliant stroke, the whole thing transforms, and suddenly, it’s a masterpiece.
That’s how I imagine God sees us. We might look at our lives and see a mess of scribbles, smudges, and mistakes. We wonder if anything beautiful can come from it. But Ephesians 2:10 reminds us of the truth: we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.
The word “handiwork” means masterpiece—something crafted with care and intention. God didn’t rush to throw us together; He created each of us with a purpose, and He’s not finished yet.
But here’s the amazing part: we’re not just created to exist. We’re created for good works. That means God has a plan for you, a unique way for you to reflect His love in the world. Good works don’t always mean grand gestures. It could be as simple as encouraging a friend, serving someone in need, or using your unique talents to bring hope and joy to others.
I think about the times I’ve doubted God’s plan for me—when I’ve felt like my life was just a mess of scribbles and mistakes. But then I see how He’s taken even the chaotic parts of my story and turned them into something beautiful.
So, if you’re feeling unsure of your purpose or doubting your value, remember this: You are God’s handiwork, His masterpiece. The same way an artist turns chaos into beauty, God is shaping your life into a masterpiece—one brushstroke at a time. Trust Him to finish what He’s started.
