What are your eyes fixed on?
For me, it had been countless hours of scrolling on social media. Maybe that has been you during this time.
Have you found yourself trying to find a way to connect with others online but have gotten bombarded in the process?
In the midst of quarantine and a world-wide pandemic, I have spent more time looking at screens than I would like to admit. Some screen time involved awesome zoom calls about pressing issues and simply doing my job as a social media coordinator.
When my eyes are fixed on social media, I am bombarded with so many people’s opinions. It is said that the eyes are the window to the soul. Social media flooded my vision, and eventually clouded it.
I would see people saying this or that, having debate after debate. Altogether, one thing is clear to me, people are divided.
When I read the word of God, I never see anywhere where He commanded us to fix our eyes, thoughts, or our hearts on politics, injustices, people’s opinions, or on solving all of the world’s problems.
But I do see this:
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and ]finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12: 1-2 (NKJV)
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” Philippians 4:8 (NIV)
We are to fix our eyes on Jesus. We are to love others as we love ourselves, and we are to think and meditate upon truth.
Truth is not found in someone else’s opinion that you agree with. It is not necessarily found in godly men and women either. The truth is found solely in the Holy Bible and The One that breathed every word into its very existence.
Today, I want to encourage you to turn social media and the news off. Bury yourself deep into the word of God and sit at Jesus’ feet to hear His heart on the matter. I bet you will find that He will more than likely call you to a place of prayer instead of a place of posting.
God sees all and knows all. Let us all be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to get angry, SLOW TO JUDGE, and be quick to love. Nobody has it all figured out, but Jesus does. Rest assured in Him today and let Him be the meditation of your heart.
