How are your New Year’s resolutions going? Most of us will give up on those resolutions by the end of the month, so maybe we should think about them a little differently this year. Why don’t we think about:

  • Treating ourselves better this year.
  • Doing things that bring us peace.
  • Bringing joy to the people in our lives.

Think about those things and then make New Year’s Resolutions. It’s still early enough in the year to make a new resolution or modify a current one!

I’m resolving to Ask For Help in 2022. I’m still figuring out exactly what that looks like, but I’m working on it! I struggle with this in just about every area of my life. It’s difficult for me to ask for help. I feel like I’m admitting weakness, like I can’t do something on my own. It makes me feel vulnerable. And who likes that!

But God made us to need each other. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 says:
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls down and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
One of the ways that I’m reminding myself to Ask For Help is by literally putting it on my to-do list. I have an online to-do list and now one of the recurring daily items is Ask For Help. So now, when I look at my list of tasks for the day and I feel overwhelmed, I try to look at them and think, “Can I ask someone to help me with any of these?” Sometimes I need to do everything on my list. But sometimes there is something on the list that I can ask someone to help with. And when that happens I breathe a sigh of relief.

What are your resolutions this year? I’d love you to share them with me at [email protected]
