Great Things | Josh

We are all capable of great things, because the One who made us is Great!

This Summer I watched my very shy daughter (Kaylee) get up on stage in front of over one hundred people – most of them her peers – and sing a duet with confidence and strength. This is a girl who is most comfortable alone in her room with a good book or a favorite CD (yes, really a CD. She likes things analog). One of her best friends somehow convinced Kaylee to sing on stage. No one really knows how. (Do you have dirt on her, Sadie?)

Her friends were stunned. They had never heard her sing before – and yet she commanded the stage and owned the song. It wasn’t how good she was on stage (and she was very good). What inspired me was knowing how much she grew into that moment. That should inspire all of us!

This is not a call for you to suddenly transform into someone you are not – this is a reminder that you are so much more than you have limited yourself to be. The God of the entire universe knit you in your mother’s womb, planted the seeds of eternity in your frame and included His very image in your DNA.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1 NLT

What are you afraid of? I bet something really challenging pops into your brain immediately. I’m not talking about skydiving or trying sushi for the first time. I’m talking about the things in life that you suspect God is calling you towards and your first instinct is to pull a Jonah and flee the other way. If you recall the story of Jonah, God got His way in the end. Why put up a fight?

Be brave. Trust God. Walk in faith.
