Andrew Ripp shares the story behind his song, “Roses.”

“I was sitting on my front porch one morning, having time with the good Lord. I got my journal out, got a cup of coffee, and I look over the left. This rose vine had been sitting there for 10 years, but for some reason, I noticed it in a new way. I noticed the color, the blood-red color of it. I noticed the thorns down the vine, and I automatically began to think in a way about the Cross that I’d never really thought about before. The wooden cross they put Jesus on came from something he created in the first place. At one point, a seed in the ground became the tree that they cut down and hung Him on. That was profound to me because God could have chosen not to plant the seed. I started to think about us. We always make mistakes, but he made us because it was about love. This led back to the rose, the symbol of romance. So all of this spilled onto a page in my journal, becoming a song called ‘Roses.’ It’s one of my favorite songs to sing. I hope you guys love it as much as I do. God bless you.” – Andrew Ripp
