Nine years.

That is how long it has been since I graduated high school. In one instance high school seems like it was yesterday and in another instance it seems like it was forever ago.

Nine years ago, I had no idea about the real world, and no experience of adulthood. I truly believe nothing truly prepares you for adulthood quite like on the job training. Honestly, I don’t think most people have it figured out we are all winging it for the most part. (Haha)

As I reminisce on my time in high school I am thinking of all I would tell that 18-year-old. Would I tell her a ton of advice? Would I warn her of things to come in the next few years?

No.

I think I would tell her to breathe.

Breathe girl, celebrate, and don’t be fearful.

With Covid-19 still in our minds we can easily allow fear to overshadow something like graduation. If you weren’t already a person who struggled with fear before the pandemic it may be something you are wrestling with now.

I am all too familiar with fear. I have struggled with things like: fear of rejection, fear of the unknown, and lots of fear of making mistakes. (it’s the perfectionist in me)

As I look back on my life, especially on these past nine years I realize that rejection, those mistakes, and that unfamiliar territory has helped to mold and shape me into the woman I am today.

So, to you, the Class of 2020, I say celebrate and faithfully and prayerfully leap into this next season of your life (with your face mask of course).

And remember as long as you allow God to guide you in every step of your life you cannot go wrong. Mishaps, failures, and unfortunate circumstances will occur, but as a believer of Christ we can trust that all things will work out for the good for those who love God.

Congrats Class of 2020.
