The Nutcracker | Friday and Saturday, 12/19 and 12/20
What: At Slidell Little Theatre, Southern Youth Ballet and Ballet Esprit will perform “The Nutcracker” on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m. In addition, the theatre’s Senior Actor’s Theatre group will present “Comfort and Joy: Toy Box Tale,” written by local playwright Helen Joffe. Both shows are covered by the same general admission of $10.

Slidell’s Bayou Christmas | Thursday, 12/18 thru Wednesday, 12/24
What: Slidell’s Bayou Christmas, an inaugural holiday celebration in Heritage Park, will bring twinkling lights and good cheer to all ages the week of Dec. 18-24. The entertainment, arts and crafts activities, vendors, and viewing of lights runs from 6 to 10 p.m., except for on this Friday and Saturday (Dec. 19-20), when hours are extended to 11 p.m.

Celebration In The Oaks | Nightly
What: Celebration in the Oaks in City Park is one of the most spectacular holiday lights festivals in the country, with more than 165,000 visitors pouring into the park to see the magical winter spectacle. City Park’s famous oaks are swathed in hundreds of thousands of twinkling lights and breathtaking light displays are scattered throughout 25 acres of the Park, including the Botanical Garden, Storyland, and Carousel Gardens.

Prytania Theater Kids Series | Friday thru Sunday, 12/19 thru 12/21
What: The theater celebrates the season with an animated Christmas-themed double feature aimed squarely at families and including arts, crafts, ‘snow’ and special holiday treats. Screenings on tap: the animated 1969 version of the Rankin and Bass short ‘Frosty the Snowman,’ accompanied by the 1964 Rankin and Bass stop-motion animated classic ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’.

St. Louis Cathedral Free Christmas Concerts | Thursday & Sunday, 12/18 & 12/21
What: For New Orleans music lovers, a visit to St. Louis Cathedral is a familiar holiday ritual thanks to the free Christmas New Orleans Style Concert Series. All concerts at St. Louis Cathedral begin at 6 p.m., excluding the final show, which takes place Dec. 21, 5:30 p.m. The shows run approximately one hour.
