Happy End of April, Beginning of May!
I would consider saying something like, “this is my favorite time of the year,” but if you continued to pay close attention to me, you might actually hear me say that at the turn of each season! Truthfully, I simply love God’s creation.
One of my favorite things to do is to go canoeing, and it doesn’t really matter to me what season it is. I’ve been canoeing overnight in the winter when there is ice on the campsite tent. I’ve seen autumn leaves fall on the gentle water as the boat drifts downstream. I’ve been out on swift spring currents when I had to hang on for dear life. And I’ve even been canoeing in the summers when there was more land than water beneath me! Whichever season, and whatever the environmental conditions, there has been consistently one recurring thought as I observe the nature around me: This is My Father’s World.
The old hymn of the same name has some unique imagery with phrases like, “all nature sings,” and “the morning light, the lily white, declare their Maker’s praise!” This beautiful song speaks of something so simple that is often overlooked to our grown-up eyes. The beauty of God’s creation is all around us.
In case you haven’t heard or weren’t aware, I am due to be a new father myself, in just a little less than a month (May 21 2014, pray for us!). Looking ahead, I can’t help but wonder what it will be like for my new baby to experience things in God’s creation for the first time, brand new! How interesting an experience that must be. My prayer for us all is that we each take the time to praise, thank, and glorify God for the things He has made and what He has done. We MUST recognize God, even when we feel or become distracted by our lives and routines. Just like the final verse of that hymn states,
“This is my Father’s world.
O let me never forget,
That though the wrong
Seems oft se strong,
God is the Ruler yet!”
