Lincoln Love

Penny for your thoughts? How about over 2,000 of them? It took Jeff Haber and his teen son Danny nearly two months to transform $24 worth of pennies into a likeness of our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. The New York father-and-son duo used pennies both for the obvious symbolism and because they can be found in different shades, thanks to age and wear. This is the third Lincoln penny portrait they've done, which they're donating to Danny's high school. And there could be more to come. The Habers say they have piles of pennies left.
Yeah, I've got piles of pennies, too. In my sofa cushions, in my car's cupholder, in my desk drawer at work...I'm feeling a little lazy in my penny-collecting....

...AND in my love for Honest Abe. Students all over are showin' some Lincoln Love!

An art student at Illinois Wesleyan University has used Post-it notes -- 6,000 of them -- to create a giant portrait of Abraham Lincoln. Chris Killham said he was inspired by the art school director, Miles Blair. Blair, examining one of his creations last year, told him he should work bigger. "Well, I decided to run with it, you know, rub it in -- and I've just made this ridiculously large," he said. Killham displayed the work for two hours spread out on the floor at the student center. "Hugs & Kisses, Abe" is to get a longer exhibit in April. Working with Post-its meant converting a black-and-white portrait into the Post-it colors. Killham used pink for black, orange for gray and yellow for white. He worked out the design on computer before mounting the Post-it notes on 105 poster boards.

I can't seem to find a photo of the Post-it portrait, but here's a video of the penny portrait in action:
