Animal Abuse Recovery Fund
A statewide animal abuse and recovery fund has been established by the Humane Society of Louisiana in an effort to provide new funding and aid to victims of cruelty and neglect. It can cost thousands of dollars to treat neglected animals and many parishes still do not have animal control services or a humane society to deal with the issues. Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so through the Humane Society of Louisiana.
Donations can be sent to:

Greta started life as an abandoned kitten forced to make her own way in a densely wooded area behind an apartment complex. One day an elderly gentleman moved into the apartment complex and saw Greta emerging from the woods in search of food. Being a cat lover, he began to feed her and after a while won her trust. Eventually she joined his household together with two other cats. Until one night when a strange odor began to fill the apartment. Minutes later, the doors flew open and firemen began to spray water in any direction. Greta hid in a corner while the other cats ran for the open door. In all the confusion, someone spotted her and put her in a box and carried her into safety. Days passed as she sat in a cage somewhere very unfamiliar. She terribly missed the old man and wondered where he was. After what seemed forever she heard his voice. A woman was trying to talk him into leaving Greta as he had no place to live and no money. Reluctantly, he looked back at Greta, and it would be the last time she saw him. Greta joined many other cats at the SpayMart shelter which has now been her home now for three years. She misses her elderly owner, but even more, the blessings of a home and a family.

Fox - "I am one of the cruelty case cats. We lived without electricity, fresh air, outside light, enough food or water. We got sick, some died and were not removed. One day SpayMart came and rescued us. We have a big room here and lots of food, water, heat in the winter & air conditioning in summer, people to pet us and toys to play with. I'd still like a real home with a family to love."
SpayMart is a nonprofit 501c3 based in New Orleans that offers low-cost spay/neuter assistance to our community in addition to operating a cat sanctuary where over 300 cats are cared for and are awaiting permanent homes. We also host adoption days at PetsMart and Petco in addition to running a Foster Kitten Program and running a Cat Help Line.
